The music program at St. Philip Lutheran School is an integral part of our philosophy of educating the whole child. All children in the Early Childhood Center and the grade school receive weekly music instruction by a full-time music teacher. In addition to the classroom music curriculum, vocal choirs, handbell choirs, a band program, and a strings program are available to enhance the musical education a child receives.
The following vocal choirs practice on a regular basis and assist in the leading of weekly worship in the church:
- Early Childhood Center students
- Cherub Choir – all 1st through 4th grade students
- Choirsters – selected 5th through 8th grade students
There are two handbell choirs that perform in weekly chapel services and enhance Sunday worship:
- Joyful Noise – students at the beginner level of handbells
- Alleluia Bells – students with at least two years of handbell playing experience
The band program exists for students in 4th through 8th grade. Weekly band practices are led by teachers from Music Education Services of Chicago.
The strings program is for students in grades K-5 Violin, Viola, and Cello are taught by Mr. Andrei Precoppi as both group and individual lessons. The students perform in concert and worship settings.
St. Philip Lutheran Church provides the opportunity for adults to sing in a church choir. Practices are scheduled weekly and the choir performs regularly for Sunday worship services.
