| Prospective Students - Religious
Instruction
Many Lutheran churches have a school because the
church recognizes the value of Christian
education. Lutheran schools are known for their
academic quality and for their ability to
nurture spiritual development. As Christian
schools, they include daily teaching about
religion, and integrate Christian beliefs with
every subject. Parents who are not Lutheran, but
who are considering enrolling their child, may
wonder, “What will they teach my child about
religion at a Lutheran school?”
Lutheran Schools Teach
the Bible
-
All scripture is inspired
by God and is true in every part
(2 Peter 1:20-21).
-
The truth of the Bible is
at the center of the Lutheran school
curriculum. All areas of knowledge are
centered in the teachings of Scripture
(Matthew 4:4).
-
The central teaching of
the Bible is that only through faith in
Jesus Christ can people be saved
(John 3:16).
Lutheran Schools Teach
about God
-
There is only one God,
but there are three equal persons in the
Holy Trinity(Matthew
28:19).
-
God the Father Almighty
is the First person of the Trinity, the
Creator of everything and everyone
(Genesis 1-2).
God the Son is the Second Person of the
Trinity, the Savior, who died for our sins
and rose from the dead
(2 Timothy 1:10). God the Holy Spirit
is the Third Person of the Trinity, the
Sanctifier, who gives us faith through His
Word and Sacraments
(Romans 5:5).
Lutheran Schools Teach
about Salvation
-
God created us
individually and specifically
(Psalm 139:13).
-
He gave us the Ten
Commandments through Moses
(Exodus 12:1-17).
-
God requires us to obey
His Law perfectly
(Matthew 5:48).
-
We are all sinners,
unable to obey God perfectly
(Ecclesiastes 7:20).
-
God threatens to punish
all who disobey His Law
(Exodus 20:5).
-
God saved us from hell by
Christ’s sacrifice on the cross
(Galatians 3:13-14).
-
When Jesus died on the
cross, he paid the price for all sins of
everyone in the world
(John 19:30).
-
The Holy Spirit, who
works through the Word of God, brings us to
saving faith in Christ
(Ephesians 2:8-9).
-
God gives us the
forgiveness of sins, seals us for eternal
life in heaven, and strengthens our faith
through the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy
Communion (Acts 22:16;
Luke 22:19-20).
You want to provide the best for your child, not
only in education but also in spiritual
development. Many children are led by the Holy
Spirit to believe what is taught in a Lutheran
school. If you are not Lutheran, or do not have
a church home, you may want to learn more about
the Christian faith as taught in Lutheran
churches and schools. It may be that God has led
you to this place where you and your child can
learn about God together!
